DePaul Drops Final Home Series to Butler

Blue Demons log 3 hits in deciding game
CHICAGO – DePaul softball dropped the final home game of their 2026 campaign in a 6-0 series decider against Butler on Sunday afternoon at Cacciatore Stadium.
The Blue Demons were held to only three base hits on the day. Sophomores Zoe Levine and Jolie Adams' hits came in the third and fourth innings, while junior Brooke Cwick's came in her pinch-hit appearance in the seventh.
Senior Bella Nigey got the start in the circle for the home finale, recording three strikeouts in her 3.2 inning outing. Sophomore right-hander Hannah Messer put in 0.1 inning after coming in to relieve Nigey in the fourth frame. Senior Kelly Greene closed out the remainder of the game, giving up no runs across 3.0 innings of work.
How It Happened
Butler (22-18, 13-8 BIG EAST) put up their first run on two hits in the top of the first, giving the Bulldogs an early 1-0 edge. A solo home run in the top of the third put one more on the board to make it 2-0.
Levine got the Blue Demons on the basepaths for the first time of the afternoon in the bottom of the third frame with her base hit, but DePaul was unable to bring her around to score.
The Bulldogs put up a two-out rally in the fourth inning, further extending Butler's advantage to 6-0.
DePaul (19-27, 7-14 BIG EAST) threatened for the first time in the bottom of the fourth as Adams hit a one-out single and Chelsea Parker followed with a walk, but a double play ended the frame quietly for the Blue Demons.
Cwick was able to reach on a base hit with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning but would move no further as Butler secured the deciding game 6-0.
Up Next
The Blue Demons will begin their final road swing of the season in South Bend, Ind. with a nonconference matchup against Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 29. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ACC Network.
