Blue Demons Fall in Friday Doubleheader

Despite hot starts, DePaul drops pair of games to St. John's
QUEENS, N.Y.  – Despite claiming a pair of early first-inning leads, DePaul dropped a BIG EAST doubleheader at St. John's on Friday afternoon. The Blue Demons claimed a 3-0 advantage in the first game of the day before falling 9-3 while game two saw a two-run lead erased in an eventual 4-3 setback.
DePaul (8-16, 0-5 BIG EAST) was led by Anna Wohlers and Brooke Johnson, with the duo tallying four hits apiece and batting .667 on the day. Wohlers drove in three-runs on her seventh home run of the season in game one, while Johnson notched four base hits and crossed the plate on three occasions.
Nicole Sullivan recorded a pair of RBIs in game two on a single to shallow left field to give Blue Demons the early momentum.
Brenna Smith tossed an inning and a third in game one, surrendering five hits and six earned runs before Katey Pierce entered in relief, allowing three runs in four and a third inning of work. Â
Bella Nigey went the distance in game two, giving up four runs on eight hits while matching her career-best with six strikeouts.
