HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1 - Georgetown 1, DePaul 6
Johnson started the game off hot with a solo home run deep into left field for a 1-0 DePaul lead at the end of the first inning. Ettema retired six of the next seven batters she faced before DePaul tallied a second run in the bottom of the third. Baylee Cosgrove drew a hit by a pitch before advancing to second on a ground out. Cosgrove then stole third and scored on a Georgetown error, 2-0.
After retiring two more Georgetown batters to open the fourth, the Hoyas used a pair of singles to tally their first run of the game, cutting DePaul's lead 2-1.Â
Bella Nigey entered the game in the fifth inning, retiring six straight batters through two innings of work.Â
Johnson and Pool singled in the sixth, setting up an RBI single by Cwick before a Georgetown error gave her two additional bases to sit at third with one out. A single from Cwick and a Georgetown error scored the two runners and allowed DePaul to push the lead, 4-1. Ariana Rodriguez was hit by a pitch giving DePaul runners at the corner as Bibianna Rodriguez entered to pinch run. Rodriguez promptly stole second, forcing the Hoyas to commit their third error of the day and giving DePaul a 5-1 lead. A ground out by Alvers plated Rodriguez for additional insurance runs.Â
Game 2 - Georgetown 4, DePaul 5
Cwick grabbed the first hit of the game with a lead off single to right field in the first inning. A Georgetown error on a fielder's choice put Carly Alvers aboard before Pool earned a walk, loading the bases. Rodriguez singled up the middle for a pair of RBIs and a 2-0 DePaul lead.
Georgetown singled to right field in the third, before a double scored their first run of the game. The Hoyas scored three additional runs in the fifth inning off of a pair of hits for their first lead of the afternoon, 4-2.Â
Abbey Pochie made a pinch hitting appearance in the fifth inning, knocking a single up the middle for her third hit of the series. Johnson doubled to left, moving Pochie to third before Riley Pool tied the game, 4-4, scoring both on a single to right field.
Nigey recorded two strikeouts in the top of the sixth inning to keep the Hoyas off the board. Two straight walks to kick off the sixth inning set up a RBI single by Cwick for the go-ahead lead.Â
